About This Place

Nestled in the heart of West Seattle, New Luck Toy offers an inviting fusion of vintage Chinese-American flavors paired with a vibrant dive bar atmosphere that instantly feels like a well-kept secret. This charming spot blends classic comfort foods with a playful tropical twist, creating a unique dining experience that keeps both locals and visitors coming back for more.

The cuisine here is a delightful journey through familiar favorites and inventive small plates, all served with bold flavors and satisfying textures. Must-try dishes include the Shrimp and Pork Fat Dumplings, which boast a rich, savory filling that bursts with juicy goodness in every bite. The Salt and Pepper Spare Ribs come perfectly braised and fried, coated in a sticky five-spice glaze that offers a deep, warming spice contrasted by crisp textures. For spice lovers, the General TSO's Chicken with Rice and Numbing Beef in Fiery Sauce deliver layers of heat and complexity, balancing sweet, tangy, and numbing Sichuan chili flavors that excite the palate without overwhelming it.

Beyond the mains, the menu’s small plates such as Salt and Pepper Shrimp (Head On) pack a punch with wok-fired garlic, jalapeno, and scallion accents that create an irresistible crunch and aroma. The Spicy Pickled Cucumbers provide a refreshing, tangy contrast, featuring Fresno chili and chili oil that cleanse the palate between bites. And for those looking to indulge further, the Chow Mein with Duck and Chicken Lollipop add layers of richness and nostalgic comfort.

The drink selection complements the food with a colorful array of tropical cocktails like the Mai Tai and Pina Colada that are both strong and delicious, serving as a perfect foil to the richly spiced cuisine. Tsingtao beer and a thoughtfully curated wine list round out the beverage options, satisfying all tastes.

Atmospherically, New Luck Toy excels with a cozy, dimly lit space that carries a retro dive bar vibe sprinkled with touches of tiki-inspired flair. The ambiance is inviting and intimate — a spot where you can unwind and enjoy your meal surrounded by character-rich decor that feels both nostalgic and fresh. Customers frequently highlight the warm, attentive service, enhancing an already charming experience.

Visitors like Violet Thompson rave about the consistently delicious food and the well-balanced tropical cocktails, despite a bit of a trek across town, emphasizing it’s always worth the journey. Jacob Schmidt appreciates the bar’s vintage vibes, though notes some dishes, like the much-loved General Tso’s Chicken, can sell out early – a testament to its popularity. Others, like Daniel Balderas, found every dish amazing, singling out the coconut shrimp and green beans, while Vik Galosta calls it one of the best hidden gems in Seattle, noting unforgettable dumplings and stellar service.

While some diners mention smaller portion sizes and slightly higher prices, the overall feedback points to New Luck Toy as a destination for those craving authentic flavors served with flair, in an environment that’s as memorable as the food. Whether you’re stopping by for a nightcap or settling in for a full meal, this spot’s blend of soulful Chinese-American cuisine and tropical cocktails delivers a compelling, flavorful escape.

Loved the vibes of this vintage Chinese-American dive bar with just touches of Tiki-esqe flair. The food was good, but prices were high and portions small for what you get. They were out of the General Tso’s at 9 o’clock on a Saturday, which was a bummer. The cocktails were solid, but nothing particularly memorable or unique. Verdict? Come here for the character and enjoy the bar snacks along the way.

One of my favorite restaurants in Seattle. The food is consistently delicious. The tropical cocktails are a nice balance to the food and are always strong and delicious. The staff are attentive and friendly. The cozy, dim ambiance is perfect. My husband and I live across town from this place so it usually takes us between 30-45 mins to get here, but it's always worth the drive. My only complaint? They're not open on Sundays! I always forget and end up craving it just when I can't have it. Otherwise, this place is a gem. Highly recommend.

Salt & Pepper ribs and general tso's chicken were the highlights. Fries at good with a generous portion. Prawn & pork dumplings and chow fat noodles aren't things I'd order again. Service is great, really dark interior.

Hands down one of the best hidden gem bars in Seattle area. Everything - food, drinks, vibes and service - are incredible! Dumplings are to die for! Absolutely loved this cute little place

What a fantastic place. They were out of some things because we showed up really late on a Thursday but it was still great. We ordered general tso and beef spare rib. Both we some of the best I've ever had. Crunchy and tender, with delicious seasoning. My wife got a passion fruit caiparinha, which was not her favorite drink but it was still definitely good. We'll be back for more late night eats, we loved it

The food at this restaurant stands out as one of the most flavorful offerings among Chinese eateries in the area. One dish that I highly recommend trying is the BBQ Duck, which is cooked to perfection with a rich, savory flavor that lingers on your palate. The atmosphere of the restaurant is warm and inviting, featuring cozy seating and a delightful backdrop of classical pop music that enhances the dining experience. One of the notable aspects of this place is the impressive speed of service. Most of the time, your food arrives in less than five minutes after placing your order, which is remarkable, especially during peak hours. However, it’s worth noting that during busy periods, navigating the restaurant can be a bit puzzling for first-time visitors. You’ll need to make your way to the back of the restaurant to take a number. After that, you should write down the number of guests in your party on a designated board and then wait patiently for your number to be called. Despite this small challenge, the delicious food and enjoyable atmosphere make it well worth the visit.
